I am here to seek advice if that’s ok
my husband in November was referred to hospital to investigate stomach/back problems as he was sick of being told IBS with no solid proof.
he has had bloods done Nov and end of December all clear as far we know.
he had CT scan early Feb which showed inflammation in the gullet non urgent but will need a camera down the throat.
over the last 3 weeks he has struggled to swallow food so the camera was put on a Urgent
we went yesterday he has a hernia and the doctor said a large ulcerated area in the gullet which to the eye looks like cancer which has scared me to death
im just looking to see if anyone has had similar situation as the Easter weekend has delayed any further infomation
my husband is a fit 38yr old other than the recent swallowing no other concerns
any help is appreciated

Hi, it's such a worrying time. I also had problems swallowing food and felt like a lump in my throat. My voice is also hoarse. I had an endoscopy and biopsy, then a ct scan. Followed by endoscopy under anaesthetic and further biopsies. I now have a feeding tube fitted and they found a stomach ulcer. The feeding tube could not be fitted in the simple way due to the ulcer. It was more complicated. I'm seeing my oncologist on 13th and have a PET scan on 6th. It has been diagnosed as cancer, I'm just waiting to find out stage and grade. It's such a scary time I had endometrial cancer in 2012 stage 3c1 and 1 year of treatment. Remember cancer treatment has moved on and survival rates are so much better now xxxx
Luu77 I’m sorry you are going through a similar situation it’s just heartbreaking and it’s so hard not to think the worst at the moment. Being a bank holiday hasn’t helped as it feels like we don’t really know anything xx
Hello Etk1982
Sorry to hear of your situation.
My best advice is to wait to hear from the specialists as then you will have more factual information to deal with. I personally think it irresponsible for a Doctor to pass such a comment. Doctors are called GPs for a reason. I.e. General practitioner.
Silverfox56 I’m going to ring the specialist nurse tomorrow they give me a card on Friday and said ring her Tuesday due to Easter. He was the doctor on the endoscopy dept who spoke to us after the procedure.
I do also have Bupa I can use if needed I’m just so confused what to do for the best xx
Hi Etk 1982
I would definitely go Bupa route. Whilst the NHS are exceptional and performed wonders for me, private gives you an accelerated process that you pay taxes on. Use it.
Very best of luck. I will look out for updates xx
Thank you it’s been a pleasure talking to you xx
Hi Pete, sorry to jump in. I had sent you a private message on 27th of February and hadn't heard from you. I had been wondering if you were still visiting here. It's good to see you are and I hope you are doing well. Kind regards Frank.
Hi, sorry to hear about your husband. It's all the unknowns that causes the mind to run riot. I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry too much, being positive really can help. It's good that your husband is fit and healthy and has youth on his side. Once you have been given the staging then you will have a better idea what to expect. I was 57 and had been a smoker for about 45 years, I had lost a lot of weight before the surgery. That was in October 2016 and I'm still here and enjoying life. Please ask anything else you wish and if I can help you with information I will. Kind regards Frank.
Hi Frank
Great to hear from you and thanks for your kind message. I havent/ cant see any private mesaage - not sure where to see that on this new site format?.
I am very well thanks. It will be 4 years next week since my diagnosis.....time flys.... I had the all clear again in Jan CT scan and am actually booked to have an Endoscopy on the 16th just to double check everything.
I went for an short run at -1 this morning....brrr
Hope you are keeping well and enjoying life.
Take care & keep in touch.
Best Wishes
Pete
Hi Pete, good to hear that you are doing well and enjoying life. Yes trying to find how to send a message was a nightmare compared to the old site. Trying to find one isn't any better. Apologies to anyone who is annoyed with us old timers, but if you hadn't used the site before the changes you won't appreciate how much easier it was to navigate and use. I had a bit of a health issue back in January with the old ticker, which I am on digoxin for, coupled with a slight discomfort breathing deeply. Anyway the chest x-ray was clear but the results were sent to my consultant surgeon. He arranged for a CT scan in February and I have 3 lymph nodes at the top of my chest and 1 on my lower left side are cancerous. He said they were baffled as this was present 4 1/2 years ago and they would not have expected me to have lasted for more than 6 months. He said the lymph nodes affected were about the size of small peas, my chest and all organs and bones are clear. I feel fine and eating great and since heart medication was increased last week I've been bursting with energy. I have another CT scan on 23rd April so they can compare the two. Meanwhile I will continue to enjoy life there's no point in worrying. None of us are born with an expiry date tattooed on our butts. Life is for living and that's what I intend to do. Kind regards Frank.
