My husband started FLOT Tuesday had 3 days good until yesterday he had dry , scratchy throat. During the night he had his first throat spasm which panic him but I stayed calm and got warm water.During the night he was coughing and bringing green phlegm up. Spoke to Our 24 hot line who wanted him to check. He had chest X ray a ECG and bloods. When looking in his mouth he has tonsillitis, mouth ulcers and Thrush. Home with antibiotics, mouth wash, mouth spray and mouth gel. No temperature and bloods ok. Has anyone else had bad side effects effecting the mouth.
Hi Cazza75
My name is Steph and I’m part of the team who look after the Online Community here at Macmillan. I hope you're finding the forums to be helpful and supportive.
I am sorry that your husband has been struggling with throat and mouth issues following FLOT.
Sore mouth and throat does appear to be listed in 'very common side effects' on Macmillan's information pages about FLOT. It sounds like you're doing the right thing by ringing the 24hr hotline and that you now have some additional medication in place.
How's your husband doing now Cazza75? Please do let the hospital know if your husband experiences any worsening or new symptoms.
Do you have any support around you at home? Please do keep chatting here in the forums and keep us updated to how you're getting on. It's been a little bit quiet on the site over the weekend, but by replying here now, I have bumped your post so that more members might see it.
Please do let us know if you need any further support with the Online Community. We'd also encourage you to reach out to the Support Line whenever you have general questions for a nurse or just want to talk. They’re available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00, email or live webchat.
Hi Cazza
Aside from generally feeling tired and rotten, my mouth and throat was the worst part of the flot chemo for me. Sore, dry throat, horrible taste / feeling in your mouth. Dry lips. Mouth sores and ulcers.
Lipbalm, lozengers and the medical spray and mouthwash will be his best friend along with plenty of fluids.
Im starting my post op chemo next week so have it all to look forward to again
Good luck
Russ
