Hullo, I’m a 62 year old man, had an endoscopy 2 days ago that showed a 3 or 4 cm white tumour in my oesophagas. Had a CT scan yesterday and now awaiting MDT advice in a week or two.
Wife and I cannot sleep and I’m dreadfully depressed with the thought that I will die in a few months or years.
Looking for advice on how to cope over the next few weeks.
Thank you
Hello and welcome to the forum, I know it’s a place no one wants to be but it’s full of lovely people who will help you on your journey.
My Mum is going through the same journey as you, just a few weeks ahead. I have learnt a lot about this particular disease in a very short space of time and having suffered cancer myself 10 years ago and now fully recovered I know how scary and anxious you and your wife feel right now.
Don’t think the worst and don’t play the stats game, every case is completely different with different requirements and possible outcomes, the internet will convince you of anything if you ask it. There have been lots of advancements in the last few years and there are many options depending on your circumstances.
Try and stay positive as I believe it is a great force within your body to fight this disease and work towards the fight to be cured. I’ve read so many success stories so take comfort from that.
You will find that now you have a diagnosis things will move very quickly and professionally and you are in some of the best hands in the world to help you beat it.
Stay positive and I will be praying for you.
All the very best.
Chris
Hi Batninja
I know that this is possibly the last place you wanted to visit, but as Chris mentions, there are a lot of lovely people and a world full of experiences.
Can I intrude further into your diagnosis by asking how it came about?
My Husband was diagnosed in May, so I relate to the difficulty sleeping that you and your wife experienced. I found that it is such an overpowering emotion, and everything negative flows through you as if you have no control. But I want to tell you, You have the Power, you have the control, repeating Chris's words...Stay Positive, focus on you...
I am normally around on the site if you or you wife want to chat, Let's hope there is some positive information from the MDT
I have a blog https://community.macmillan.org.uk/blogs/b/facing-the-future-together it may give some ideas on how we coped in the earlier days... (I am just about to update it)
Good Luck

Thank you Lowe, regarding my diagnosis I’ve had a hiatus hernia with acid reflux for years and had a 2nd endoscopy (the previous was 15 years ago) after more pain swallow recently.
I have a 3cm long tumour at the entrance to my stomach.
Your journey’s blog is informative and moving and my best hopes go out to you both.
Roger
Hi Roger
Your initial symptoms are almost identical to Dal's, although after being told at the time of the first endoscopy that he had a hernia, no mention of one has ever been made since?
I hope you get some answers real soon so that you may start healing.
Best wishes
Lowe'
