I have just found out that my dad has oesophageal cancer. They cannot operate so are inserting a stent, then chemo. I am trying to move him to wales as he lives in England. Not sure how to go about this. I do not know what to expect so any info would be appreciated. I also need to know what benefits I can claim for dad and myself. Please help
Hi , I'm sorry to hear about your dad. If you are his carer for 35 hours per week or more you can claim Carers Allowance. You don't say how old your dad is and that would have an affect on what he can claim. This page provides a list of benefits your dad might be able to claim and Carers Uk are great at helping out with benefits. Also, your dad's Macmillan nurse can help with forms but, it's important to check where your dad would get treatment and if he would have a smooth transition from one treatment area to Wales. I'd suggest you call his specialist team for more information and try the PALS office in his local hospital and in your area hospital too; they will know what help you can get and if moving might delay treatment.
Hugs, Linda
