MASS ON VOCAL CHORDS

It all started with my husband saying he had a sore throat, I said 'hope you haven't a cold', as I am neurotic re being in contact with anyone with a cold, due to my lungs & being frightened of getting a chest infection.  But all was OK, but then he started bring up blood, but only in the morning, was obviously worried, so we went to see the GP, who gave him a chest x-ray & immediately (this was last month) phoned the hospital & booked him in to see the respiratory doctor that day.  He has had CT + endoscopy (which they couldn't carry out 'cos could not get the camera past the mass).  Then he had another CT on the throat area, as the previous one was on the chest & he was referred to ENT.  Another appointment with the camera when we both could see the mass, so another appointment made for a pre-op + in-between has had the virus check, now 3 times.  Today up early to get to the hospital, although we took a taxi, got there at 06.30 & waited for them to open at 07.30, (the department, the hospital is open 24/7) - he went down to theatre for his biopsy at 12.00, I had a taxi home a while later, he is now recovering & I am told will be kept in for the night, the histology will not be for another 2 weeks - I always think that this is the worst time, just waiting, although the respiratory doctor did give me an indication that it was cancer & he would need treatment.  It's funny but when you are diagnosed yourself, you don't worry, but now I can understand how my husband felt when I was, 'cos you do worry far more about someone else.  All we have been saying is thank God we haven't had the virus and are still alive.  My main concern is that at the present time we are in Malta, the health service here is good, but it will depend on his results and the treatment, the Mater Dei here does not have the same facilities for radio therapy as the Royal Marsden (which is no problem as they send people there).  So may be jumping the gun & worrying unnecessarily - will have to wait for 2 weeks to find out, but would appreciate your comments.  Thank you for reading my rambles.

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that your husband has suspected cancer and I can understand how hard waiting for results and a diagnosis is.

Although I'm not a member of this group I noticed that your post hadn't had any response so didn't want to just pass by without saying hello.

I'm sure if it does turn out to be oesophageal cancer, the members of this group will be willing to answer questions if they can and give you support.
