Acid reflux and oesophageal cancer

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help, I have oesophageal cancer and just started my FLOT chemo treatment. Sometimes I wake in the night with very painful acid reflux, I'm guessing when the acid meets the tumor. I have prescription antacid but nothing to sooth this when it happens. Does anyone know if Gaviscon would be safe or good to use.

Or an alternative, I sip water but maybe something more effective

Any help appreciated

Hi , I didn't have chemotherapy so I don't know if there is anything stopping you trying bicarbonate of soda and warm water. The water doesn't need to be hot, just warm enough to help dissolve the bicarbonate of soda. Also sleeping propped up should help, I've had to sleep propped up since I had surgery in October 2016. When I was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer I also had helicobacter pylori in the stomach, I think that creates excess acid. It was treated with antibiotics. I hope this helps, good luck and kind regards Frank.

    Hi

    Are you taking sucralfate?

I had awful acid reflux but it really helped and was prescribed by my oncologist. It comes as tablets that I dissolve or in liquid form. It is not terribly easy to get but should be easy enough for cancer patients.

I am recovered now but still get reflux if I do not take it but great with it.
