Hi there, anyone out there can help me with their experience of taking Granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) as part of their Chemo? Been prescribed it today and wondered if any of you have information or guidance on its impact.

I'm just starting 6 cycles of Oxaliplatin and Capecitabine Adjuvant Chemo for Oesophageal Adenomacarcinoma T3N2M0

Thank you and please stay safe.

  • Hi Michael

I had ecx chemo six years ago and my white blood cell count was knocked down. After my first cycle I had a weeks rest so the WBC’s could recover. However, after my second cycle I was given daily injections to boost my WBC’s. They were simple enough to administer and as far as I am aware did the trick so didn’t delay the completion of my three cycles.

I had ECX chemo: Epirubicin, Capecitabine, carboplatin, (related obviously to other platin drugs) You are lucky to miss out on the epirubicin which is a foul, poisonous, corrosive, cardiotoxic intravenous chemo drug, which caused me a few issues. But I got through it and I’m still here more than six years on! I hope you do as well.

Keep asking questions; knowledge is power.

Stay safe as your chemo will put you in the vulnerable group - less so as you are being given g-csf to boost your immunity, thank goodness.

Counting the days, making every day count.

  • Thanks Brent. Good to hear that all is well with you. Five years - brilliant and sounds like you enjoy everyday to the full....

I appear to have gone in a different direction with staging - Started off with no pre-chemo as MDT agreed stage T1B it then all changed!

    • CT staging at T2N1M0
    • EUS T1BN0MX
    • Histology - T3N2M0

    Appreciate your help.
