Hi
My friend is receiving chemo/radiotherapy for oesophageal cancer, prior to having an operation. He's doing remarkably well so far, but I'm looking for inspiration for recipes of foods that a) he can get down and b) that will build him up ready for his operation. I've made several kinds of soup and fish and cottage pies but am keen to vary things to keep his appetite up. Thank you in advance.
Hi , I can certainly recommend home made soups, remembering to serve them much cooler than usual during treatment. Fish pies are great, but, and I'm sure you know this already, be very careful to pick out even the tiniest bones. Try this booklet which can be downloaded.

Hi, if he can manage minced beef spaghetti Bolognese, chilli con carne, lasagne etc. A couple of weeks before surgery I was drinking green leafy vegetables juiced, with a bit of apple or carrot to sweeten it. I couldn't even swallow ensure milkshakes. Also fatty foods can help to bulk him up. I had lost about 5 stones prior to surgery, just over 3 years later and I have gained all the weight I lost and more. I hope this helps, good luck and kind regards Frank.
Some good ideas here thank you Zappaman. Good to hear about your recovery. Best wishes.
