Hi, my husband has been diagnosed with cancer in his oesophagus this week, he had the PET scan and it looks like there’s no secondary cancer. We have an appointment on Tuesday to discuss treatment options and next stage investigations.

I want to be the best I can and support him in every way I can. I am open to all advise and tips. What to buy, what to feed, what to be aware of, what lotions/potions/creams, anything.

Thank you

Hi Bree, if he can eat fatten him up. Once he gets staging and a treatment plan that will direct you into asking specific questions, that way you can avoid getting bombarded with replies which may not be helpful. It can be such a testing time with the mind running riot, being positive really does help. Please feel free to ask anything and you will get answers. Write down any questions you want to ask the consultants and take a pen and paper to write down answers and information. Good luck and kind regards Frank

  • As well as putting on some pounds he should get as much exercise as he can. Even while on chemotherapy they are now recommending that people should have an exercise program at a gym. Often the gym subscription can be subsidised by the NHS.

  • Hello Bree

Sorry to hear the news of your hubby

Here's my full journey end to end so far - my daughter helped me construct a blog to help others with potentially what to expect . I had no idea of the condition, treatments , journey or indeed friends and support I would endure along the way . Frank and Brent in particular have been brilliant, along with some others - it's a great site / community with sincere people who are more than happy to help in whatever way they can

Best wishes to you and your hubby

    Dear Pete,

i have only read this yesterday (information overload). I cannot thank you enough! Your blog lifted my spirits and it’s the first information that I have felt that Ted would read, and would benefit from. Your information was truthful, numerous, factual but most importantly not frightening, encouraging and positive.

The queezy drops and bio oil are ordered and your blog shared with Ted and our daughter.

Best wishes for you ongoing health improvement, and thanks again Bree xxx

Thank you Brent, we’re still waiting for the treatment plan, which we’re hoping to get tomorrow. Ted did go to the gym for his first meeting, however they’ve now said he can’t go due to the corona virus, so we’re doing plenty of walks and some other exercises at home.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, it’s very much appreciated.

    Hi Frank,

thank you for taking time out to reply to my post. I’m really hoping that we get the treatment plan tomorrow. It was scheduled for today but was cancel as he now has to see another consultant about a stomach node.

We are staying positive, and I’m trying my best to fatten him up, ironically I’m stress eating and having no problems with weight gain Joy  Ted is finding it difficult to undo everything we’ve every know. And now be able to eat a few more fattening thing, previously eaten on ration.

We are a positive couple and now that the shock is wearing off, we just want to get on with it. We’re getting on with our walking and will exercise at home together (not allowed in the gym due to the corona virus).

    Thanks again

    Bree. X

  • Hi Bree,

No problem - it's a challenging time as you move into a new world with so much procedure and new terminology - but all for the good in getting Ted on the road to recovery.

Feel free to ask any questions at any time and don't take the journey ' alone' - there's loads of great , well meaning and super helpful people on this site who will all be rooting for you

    Very Best Wishes

    Pete
