First Review After Surgery

Hi All

So I had my first review with the surgeon today following my oesophagectomy last month.

He said he took out 36 lymph nodes and every single one tested negative! I'm now graded at T2A, the lowest rating it could be. I'm over the moon!

Belt and braces though, they want me to proceed with the next lot of FLOT chemo just as a precaution. That will start in about a months time, to give me chance to recover more from the surgery.

The surgeon did also say that I had had them worried when I was in hospital due to the complications. This came as a bit of a surprise, I obviously knew about the complications but didn't realise they were worried.

The main thing is, it's all very positive news and I can rest a little easier now for the next month until the chemo starts again!

Hi Deb, oh that’s fantastic news, I’m so so chuffed for you, best possible outcome. I know more flot you could probably do without but at least you’ll know you’ve well and truely kicked its butt by then. Hope you can manage a little celebratory tipple tonight Kissing heart Love Jayne xxx

Hi Deb, that's great news I'm so happy for you. Treat yourself to something nice to celebrate. Kind regards Frank.

  • Fantastic.

Thank you so much for posting this uplifting and inspiring news.

Funnily enough I was told by the surgeon that all had gone well, but the anaesthetist said they had a lot of problems with my heart rhythm.

Good luck with the post op chemo, but until then enjoy the next month and find things you like eating and that like you!

Counting the days, making every day count.

    Hi Deb

thankyou for keeping us updated. I’m so glad you are doing well.
How are you coping with eating and weight loss?
Im probably going to sound daft but when you say you are still T2 what does that mean please? I thought that having the oesophagus removed would therefore make it T0.   I’m so sorry if that’s a stupid question. Since my husband was diagnosed I appear to have lost all control over my brain!

Thanks all for your replies, it is indeed great news!

Jayne - How did your first chemo session go?

Frank, Brent & Pete - Thanks!

Judy - I've had no problems with eating, nothing at all has disagreed with me yet or caused me any problems and I've had no acid reflux at all. Weight wise, I'd put on 2 stone prior to my surgery and I've lost around a stone and half of that so far post surgery. They've told me not to lose any more for the moment in case the post op chemo disagrees with me and I end up being ill/not eating.

No question on here is daft, we all need to know where we are with things so if something isn't clear ask away! The T2A is the final staging for the cancer that I had i.e what they removed. They don't stage after the cancer is removed because, as you rightly said, it isn't there any more. Hope this helps!
