This time last month I was on the table having the Ivor Lewis Oesophagetcomy. I can't say it's been a breeze since then as it hasn't, on the contrary in fact due to complications following surgery. Very difficult times.
BUT I'm astonished as to how quickly I have bounced back since leaving hospital. I am now sat on the sofa in my lounge feeling almost normal. I am completely self sufficient in respect of looking after myself, I'm just not doing any labour intensive stuff at the moment e.g. cleaning as I don't want to overdo it (this has had a remarkable affect on hubby too as he's now become obsessed with cleaning!)
I've been back driving for a week with no issues, although again I'm just taking it steady and not overdoing it.
I've not had any issues with food either, everything I've eaten has stayed down and not caused any problems at all. I'm effectively eating normally just in smaller portions.
My shoulder had been causing me an awful lot of pain/discomfort while in hospital but that has now virtually gone too.
I just can't believe it, I had visions of not being able to do much at all for weeks/months so to be as able as I am now is beyond belief. I consider myself very lucky.
Seeing the surgeon on Thursday for my initial review, fingers crossed that goes well. Unsure yet whether I will need further chemo.
Thanks

Aww Deb, that’s amazing news, I’ve been following your posts since I was diagnosed at the end of November and I was just wondering last night funnily enough how you were getting on as you hadn’t posted for a while. That’s a great inspirational post tho, I’m just starting my journey on Thursday (my birthday ironically enough so I’m hoping that’s a good omen ) with my first of 4 flot treatments followed by a rest, surgery, then mop up flot. Well done you, I’m so pleased to hear your out the other side and good luck seeing your surgeon on Thursday, I’ll be thinking of you. Love Jayne xxx
Thanks Jayne!
I've just been looking back through my posts on my other thread from when I was in hospital and have no recollection of even writing half of them! Must have been really spaced out, I'm surprised I even managed to put a sentence together!
2 steps down (initial chemo and surgery), 1 more to go (final chemo, potentially) so I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. You'll be there before you know it!! I can't believe it's been nearly 6 months since I was diagnosed, it's all gone so fast.
We both have stuff going on on Thursday, let's hope it's a good day for both of us!
