Hi Marie. Get the dietician to prescribe Aymes. This comes in the form of pre made shakes or powder form. The powder form can be added to other foods to increase calaorie intake by 300 calories a portion. So if your husband can eat a bowl of custard made with full cream milk with an Aymes sachet of powder added, then that could be 700 calories a bowL The neutral one is good for adding to savoury food, such as soups, mashed potato, etc.

Full cream everything, added sugar, 'junk' food, snacks around the house, little and often will be the key to this.

    Good luck

Thanks Wendy as we didn't know the after effects this would lead to . Although the hospital team have been great with his treatment all they said is that he might have a little trouble eating , but you don't know the extent of it until you are going through this , it's horrible  thank you so much for the advice you have given me , I will be on to the doctor first thing Monday morning  Thanks xx

    Hello Maria,

I hope you don't mind my coming in on your conversation with Wendy.

The advice she has given you is really good, and I had supplements prescribed for Pete when he was losing weight after his operation. Wendy did mention the dietician in her reply, this is because, if your GP is under the same rules as ours, they are not allowed to prescribe these supplements on request. It is the dietician at the hospital who has to agree that you can have them. In our case it only took one phone call to Pete's dietician and she agreed to talk to our doctors surgery and ask them to get the supplements for us. They contacted me to arrange the flavours we wanted and they arrived at the surgery the next day. I thought I would mention this as a phone call to the surgery who then ask you to phone the hospital can be so frustrating.

    Good luck with the supplements

I’ve had 9 stretches and will be going for a 10th on Tuesday. My dietician prescribed nitric is products. Shakes. Drinks etc. Protein. Protein. Protein. As much as you can take. All good with me now. Stretches are now each3/4 wks. They’re a doddle. Just remember to eat small and swallow before you take more food. It’s taken a long time. Op was 3/02/20 but coming together now. Will never be able to drink and eat same as before.
