My husband had his oesophagectomy in April 2025 and has been doing really well until about a month ago. To cut a long story short, what we thought was likely to be delayed emptying causing his coughing, nausea and lack of appetite turned out to be a twisted hiatal hernia which has needed emergency surgery. Chris has also had a UTI from being catheterised several times as since early June, CT scans have caused serious renal retention …. total inability to pee.
surgeons have also found suspicious areas in the peritoneum sent for biopsy.
Has anyone else experienced any of this particularly the complex hiatal hernia repair to the conduit? My worry is Chris has absolutely no desire to eat and he is very weak …… his recovery from this is much worse than after his oesophagectomy.
Many thanks for any input.
