Hi , my husband James has Esophyogus cancer T3 N0 MO he isn’t able to have surgery so his constant has opted for 16 week chemotherapy and 25 sessions of Radiotherapy .
He will finish his second cycle on Friday and then starts both his third cycle along with radiation therapy . He is extremely tired all the time he is eating but the fatigue is worrying me as he is sleeping most of the time .
what other symptoms did everyone else get with the radiotherapy . Jane x
Hi Jane D24, sleeping a lot during the treatments are natural but if you are worried ring the GI Nurses and tell them your concerns and ask what other side effects James may encounter. The GI nurses are worth their weight in gold. There may be an answer machine leave a message and they are normally great at returning your call. I wish you and your husband all the best through this trying time. Steph x
I too had a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. A different regimen for chemo but I did have 25 sessions of radiotherapy.
I was told that some patients do not tolerate radiotherapy well and do not complete the five week course and that it is usually by week 3 that patients begin to feel adverse effects of inflamed oesophagus.
i was also told that every patient has a different experience. And some patients tolerate radiotherapy very well. Fortunately, I am one of those who completed the 5 weeks with minimal discomfort.
i hope your husband’s treatment goes well.
Hi , thankyou for your message ,it is nice to here that not everyone has all the nasty side effects ,hopefully James will join you in that club .He has sales through his last two cycles of chemotherapy not even feeling sick , he hasn’t lost weight just the fatigue and some nerve pain in his leg which he had before .l just hope this works as the surgeon has said he isn’t able to have surgery due to him being diabetic which l think isn’t fare . But thank you again xx
Jane
Hi Steph , thank you for your post , he is doing amazing well to be honest , no sickness nothing just sleeping most of the day and night . But James is also diabetic so it could be adding to his fatigue . I have left a message and hopefully they will get back to me thanks again x
Jane
