Hi there, I’m looking for some positivity, a relative has been diagnosed with stage 4, her2- and negative for immunotherapy markers. Metastasis is bone. We know this is incurable but has anyone had any long lasting success with chemotherapy alone? They are not feeling too bad and barely had symptoms.
I have read exceptional stories on cancerchat.cancerresearchuk.org but would be good to hear someone on here. Is the lack of Herceptin and immunotherapy suitability really, really bad news? Oncologist did say immunotherapy was not prognostic and I guess it’s difficult to say whether it’s chemo or immunotherapy that works if someone receives both. We are going to have the cancer genetically mapped to identify any possible targeted therapies. We’re gutted so please only reply if you have something positive to share Hugging

  • I am interested to see if you get any replies. I too, have oesophageal cancer that cannot be cured and is biomarker negative for targetted therapy.

i joined this forum 18 months ago, desperately looking for some positivity. Which at that time, I would measure in terms of quantity of life.

I have not come across anyone with the same diagnosis as me who has made a “miracle” recovery and defeated this dreadful disease. But I have found positivity in this forum and the forum for those of us living with terminal cancer. The positivity is appreciating quality of life while we can.

Neither I nor your relative know how much time we have left that but both of us are fortunate, at this time, to be largely symptom free. And long may that continue.

I feel that I have concertinered the decades of happiness  this disease will deprive me of into the last 18 months. So that’s my message on positivity. Treasure the quality of life while it’s there.

  • Hi Blueberry and Rosiee,

Thank you for reaching out to the forum and sharing some of your story.

I just wanted to let you know that when my husband was originally diagnosed back in 2020 he was advised that he was HER2 Negative and not suitable for immunotherapy, but two months later he was then re-assessed and told that he was he was HER2 positive.

Things change quickly on this journey, and I hope that things will change for you too also.

  • Thank you so much for getting in touch, what was the reason for the reassessment please?

  • They never gave a reason, they just regularly test bloods I believe and we were then told that he was now HER2 this was after possibly his 4th chemo session.
