Hi everyone
My husband ages 66 (T4aN3M0)) has been recovering well from the op in March 2023. His weight is stable, eating reasonable size meals, managing fatigue with a daily nap for an hour. About three months ago he started to get some issues with swallowing and feeling full a bit quicker than normal. He had a CT scan 8 weeks ago which showed nothing but has just had a gastroscopy I had a gastroscopy to check what was going on. Unfortunately we’ve been told that the new join of the oesophagus looks abnormal and they’ve taken 8 biopsies but think that the cancer has come back. There was redness and inflammation and some of that is acid damage but the Dr was pretty clear that the problem was more than acid damage.
We’ve been told that the biopsy results will be back within 2 weeks and we have an appointment with the oncologist booked for 20th October. He will probably also need another CT scan.
We were just wondering what might be offered? The Dr said that some very targeted chemo might be possible if the molecular structure of the cancer is a fit. Obviously we’re both feeling devasted and I know this community will understand!
thanks
Jane
Hi Jane,
So very sorry to hear that you have received the news that we all dread receiving. My op was a year after your husband’s and, although I’m doing wel and getting on with life, the worry of recurrence does rear its head from time to time. I hope that, once the definitive results come back, there will be some treatment that they will be able to use to deal with this recurrrnce. They do seem to have a variety of options available so I’m sure there will be something they can use. CB
I think we all feel like that ! It’s always in the back of your mind ! I am sure they will find a way forward for your husband Jane take care Tricia x
Hi Jane
So sorry to hear this .My husband is 67, two years 10 months post surgery and doing ok .(Although he is under monitoring via six monthly CT scans for a kidney lesion .Slow growth but nothing confirmed so it could be insignificant as his urology team don’t seem too worried at present ) .He says the thought of a oesophageal recurrence does come into his thoughts from time to time .
It’s devastating to say the least ..Hope once you receive the results there can be an effective way forward for your husband .
Best wishes
J x
