Hello,
I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with OC at the junction with the top of my stomach, I have had PET scan, CT scan, laposcophy (however you spell it) an 2 x endoscopy:
I was informed that they saw a couple of white bits in my stomach so confirmed that I could not have an operation.
I am terrified absolutely terrified, I have my appointment with the oncologist on the 11th !
What should I expect from this appointment and what questions should I ask ?
I have read so many positives on these pages and I am trying so hard to remain positive
thanks for reading and any advice is greatly appreciated
xx
I would imagine at this appointment they will explain where exactly your cancer is and the reasons they have decided that surgery isn't an option, and if like my dad's appointment, will have access to the scans so you could see for yourself if you wanted to. They'll also explain what treatment they can offer you whether it be radiotherapy, chemotherapy or immunotherapy and what the side effects and benefits are.
Big hugs x
Dear Denna61
I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I too have a tumour at the junction of my stomach and oesophagus and I am too high risk for surgery.
We are not medics on here. But I think if all of your diagnostic tests have been completed your MDT will outline what they consider to be the best treatment for you and when would be the best time to start it.
There are many variables that are taken into consideration by the Oncologist. Your overall health, the symptoms you are experiencing, the extent of the disease (stage), the histology of the tumour (squamous cell or adenocarcinoma) and any characteristics of your tumour that may respond to immunotherapy or targeted drugs.
I agree with the advice given here. There is an overwhelming amount of information to take in and and having someone with you is a good idea both for emotional support and remembering what was said. Write down the questions you would like answers to. My experience is Consultants will answer everything asked of them, to the level of detail I request and have given me as much time as I need.
Good luck with your appointment and best wishes x
