My Dad was diagnosed about 6 months ago with oesophogal cancer and after largely unsuccessful radio and chemo has recently had a stent inserted. Over the last six months his oesophagus had been totally blocked and fed through a PEG, so we were excited that he would eat again. But since the stent has gone in 3 weeks ago he has felt nauseous almost all the time and vomited daily, so we are struggling to even get enough food into him. The stent is quite close to the bottom of the oesophagus so the nurses are wondering if it might have slipped down. Has anyone else had similar problems from a stent going in and any advice on how we might address it - we need to strengthen him up but at the moment it feels like he is moving in the other direction. Thank you for any ideas.
Hello AI P
So sorry to hear about your dad.
My dad had issues with his stent & for him the nausea & vomiting were symptoms of it migrating.
Your upper GI team may be able to get your dad an x ray to see if this is the case & reposition it for him if it has.
Sending hugs.
