Hello all,
I hope you are doing okay.
My friend is due a consultation on next week to discuss scan and bloods after surgery and post op chemo.
They called today and said his appointment was cancelled and he has to go to the hospital that did his surgery? Not the one he was expecting to which was the one he has chemo at.
He was told by surgeon they did not expect to see him after surgery and the care would be handed to the closest hospital to him for the post op chemo so he has gone into panic.
This has greatly worried my friend who was physically shaking and went white. I probed and got him to call back because I did not want him terrified all weekend. They apologised and friend said is there a problem with the scan - the doctor said no the scan is fine but I need to go through everything with you next week. I assume they would not say the scan was fine if it was not?
Any ideas on what this might mean? he is so distressed I just want to help.
thank you
Hi
I wouldn’t look too much into it .My husband had his chemo at one hospital (The Christie ) and his surgery at another .(Salford Royal ) He was bounced backwards and forwards several times throughout the whole process …Once he’d finished his post surgery chemo he had his bloods and comparison scan done at The Christie and was then referred back to Salford Royal to discuss matters with his surgeon .He still has follow up appointments there every six months .
Its normal to worry about every little thing but try not to . I couldn’t tell from your post but I’m assuming your friend has finished his post op chemo ? If so , your friend should receive a schedule of post treatment monitoring appointments for the next five years .My husband’s were ( and still are )
•Every three months for the first year
•Every six months for years two and three
•Yearly for the remaining two years
These usually all take place at the hospital where the surgery was carried out and if any new symptoms occur during your friend’s recovery it should be reported to his Cancer Nurse Specialist based at the hospital where the surgery took place .
Hope this helps
J
I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to message me. My friend had his scan yesterday after 10 months of treatment and surgery and was told no signs of cancer at this stage :) thank you again for being so kind and helpful
Oh that’s excellent news .Wishing him a successful recovery and a healthy future
Best wishes
