Yesterday was the start of my second week of chemo (Paclitaxel and Carboplatin) and radiotherapy. I had all my pre-meds but as soon as they started the Paclitaxel my chest went tight, I had difficulty breathing and hot flushes. Obviously it was red button time and everyone came running.
They immediately stopped the drip and gave me more drugs to counteract the reaction and I felt better really quick. I then had an ECG and saw the doctor who was happy for me to continue, but at a slower rate.
The extra meds obviously helped as I had no further reactions and was able to complete both doses of chemo.
They have warned me another reaction is possible next week, but I will probably be prescribed extra pre meds to prevent this.
So grateful the staff had explained possible side effects beforehand and what would happen. But it has made me a little more nervous about next Monday now.

Hi Lorraine,
It was scary, but the staff had explained side effects well and the importance of pressing the red button immediately and not to wait and see. The quicker the staff can stop the chemo drip and give you the drugs you need, the faster you recover.
Luckily not everyone reacts the same. I hope all goes well when your husband starts the Paclitaxel. I will keep an eye on your posts to see how he gets on.
