  1. Hi,

I am feeling very alone this New Year’s Eve and struggling.

We are still waiting on PET scan results! Feels such a long wait and things have got worse this last week.  Fatigue and sickness have really set in now. I’m scared for him, he is losing weight rapidly. We have contacted the dietitian who has given some drinks and he has anti sickness tablets. He can still eat that’s not a problem but only certain foods then every other day he is sick so he feels so weak. He seems to just want to sleep is this normal?
Has anyone else had experience with this? He is a big guy so needs more calories. I don’t know what to suggest for the best.

I don’t even know if he will be strong enough for treatment at this rate. I’m sorry I know it’s New year and I hope you are all ok. Thank you for everyone who has given me guidance so far . Love and best wishes xxx

  • Hi Butterfly has your husband started treatment yet I couldn’t find any other information? My husband was over 23 stone and in 14 months of treatment he’s lost 11 stone maybe more now. He hardly eats anything really and the supplements the dieticians give him he might have one or two rather than 6 as suggested as he hates them. It’s like putting a dinner out for a three year old amount and trying to get him to eat. He has terrible nausea most days and stomach aches after eating. Try and take care of yourself by less worrying if you can. Be there for him and suggest things that you think will help, if you get really worried ring his GI nursing team when they are working I found them a godsend. Take care and let’s hope this new year brings better news for us all. Happy new year

  • Hi Butterfly77

Two years ago I had the same worries with my husband .He couldn’t eat or drink for several months until he was finally fitted with a feeding line , which was a Godsend .I worried about whether he would be fit enough for the treatment etc  .All sorts of worries were swimming about in my head .

(He came through the treatment successfully.)

OC is a particularly debilitating type of cancer .The symptoms can be very severe for the majority who suffer from it .I would suggest contacting his medical team to emphasise again how much he is struggling .

Once treatment starts most people  see an improvement in their eating , my husband could eat soon after his first chemo cycle , but until then I’m afraid it’s it’s just a case of perseverance.

Hope the results are back soon and he is on his treatment path very soon .

    Best wishes J

  • Hi Butterfly

My husband began his treatment on Monday , the improvement has started already . He started having some small amounts of our meals and now will actually drink all his shakes . Biggest improvement , his energy levels . I was scared he wouldn't be fit for treatment.

Hoping your results come through soon

    Stay strong

  • Hi

You have waited so long for some answers I can understand your worries and frustration but now this holiday period is coming to an end I hope you will finally get some answers and a plan which will make all the difference because you will be able to see a way forward and know what’s happening which will give you both something to focus on and hopefully get support from a dietitian. I such a shame his diagnosis has fallen at this time.
Please contact someone as soon as you can to hurry the results don’t let him sit back awaiting to be contacted I had to contact the GI secretary as at first I was discharged without being able to keep anything down she put the wheels in action and alarm bells rang and everyone called me the same afternoon then I was admitted and things moved quickly but if I had sat back and waited for a appointment as my discharge letter said they would contact me in due course goodness knows when I would have been seen !

your a great support to him but remember to look after yourself too

  • Hiya Tricia

Hope you're ok and happy new year.
Well unfortunately he's totally gone off curry . He's half Indian and honestly his cooking skills are a big part of why we are married ... just joking . But yeah his taste buds have changed . He wants really random things . Like KFC chicken skin( he ate some kfc today ) He just asked for a satsuma ( didn't have any) just random . Luckily he's guzzling his shakes now so he can take his medication.
How are you getting on ?
    xx

  • I am doing ok thanks eating more orally and cutting down on the night feeds but still very wary of what I eat because I don’t want it to get stuck and worried about gaining weight so trying to do hAlf and half ! Yes things I think I will like are really bitter and my tongue is like rough when i eat guess it’s the chemo but if I can eat then that’s good !,

good to hear husbands taking shakes and meds now so  onwards and upwards for the new year

    sending hugs

    Tricia
