Has anyone had chemo delayed due to high temperature

Hi all, my Husband had his chemo cancelled due to a high temperature on Friday. The nurse said he would either have IV antibiotics or oral to take home. Unfortunately the Doctor disagreed and he was discharged.

By Saturday morning he had an awful productive cough and temperature so we had to go back to the Hospital. He had IV and came home with oral antibiotics and lower respiratory infection was diagnosed.

He was told to call the chemo unit today but sadly they never called to reply to his answerphone message.

We're completely in the dark as to when he can now have his 3rd FLOT and wondered if anyone has had this happen and what the time frame was to restart?

  • Hello again

Thank you for asking. I feel good now. I have more energy and can eat, even if it is small portions, often. During the first round of chemo I was tube fed so enjoying a small meal is great.

My surgery was done in Glasgow. It took a while to recover and I was very frustrated by not feeling well, till I saw my surgeon at 8 weeks post op and she said I was doing well. She told me to stop expecting everything to get better so quickly. Her exact worst were" slow your head down to the same speed as your body"

Wise words for us all I think. Its a long road with a lot of bumps on the road.

I'll be thinking  of you and you husband I hope it all goes well.

  • Thanks so much and many apologies for the delay to reply. I'm delighted to hear you're recovering from surgery. It must be such a relief x

  • Thank you, yes it is a relief to have that part over.

Now I'm apprehensive again, today I go to have a picc line in again and start chemo again on Friday. How are thing going with your husband now ?

  • I'm sure it is, well done that must be the worst part.

He has had his 4 rounds of FLOT and has a scan this Friday. I'm incredibly anxious as he's so tired all the time that I can't help worrying that it could be the cancer causing it.

We both really hope the scan results are good and he can have the surgery.

    J x

  • It took me a few weeks to get over the fatigue, I'll have my fingers crossed for his scan results

  • Oh that's reassuring thank you Blush x
