Hi everyone
My husband has just completed the last bout of his second FLOT sandwich treatment following successful surgery to remove the oesphagus. He has handled the FLOT treatment really well but is now becoming extremely frustrated with the retainment of his feeding tube, although weight loss is not evident. How soon after the end of the second chemo rounds did anyone have their feeding tube permanently removed and how do you handle the dreaded thoughts of uncertainty moving forward?
HI
My partner had the feeding tube after the last chemo it stayed in a while but he was getting fed up, one night it just fell out, I rang the nurse and explained we couldnt get it back in and she said he would have to go back to hospital for that, I told her he didnt want it anymore and wanted to try stick to normal food and they agreed to keep it out and see..he never had to get it back again. I think if there is no significant weight loss they will let him go alone. Give them a call and see what they say it does become a pain.
Uncertainty just becomes habit, it can be a bit frustrating when they cant eat, for us also but its a process that takes time, my partner got dumping syndrome and still does 6 months later but learning how to deal with it, not eat too much at once etc..
I hope this helps xx
