Hi, my Dad has recently been diagnosed with oesophagus cancer, and whilst we are all finding it hard to get our heads around, Dad is bravely starting treatment. He had a stent fitted a few weeks ago, but still struggles with eating, he says he feels full all of the time. He eats such a small quantity of anything I am worried he wont be able to keep his strength up for the chemo as it goes on. Has anybody else struggled with this, and is there something that needs to be done, do we need to try and speak to someone? Since having it fitted and chemo starting he really has been left to it, I'm struggling to know where to turn next! Many thanks in advance.
Hi there, Have you been in touch with your dads dietitian? They can prescribe fortisip and fortijuice drinks that are high in calories. I too have had a stent fitted and food can be a bit restricted. I am currently having eating issues and am currently talking with my dietician on what options are available. I hope you get the answers you require and your dad manages to find foods that agree with him.
Hello, many thanks for reaching out. Yes my mum contacted her this morning and she's given a prescription for smaller sized vitamin / mineral drinks but said its normal to feel full because of where the tumour is :-(
Can I ask, do you find it helpful being in this forum and being able to contact others going through similar? I just wonder whether to mention it to my dad. He's really cut off at the moment, doesnt reply to text messages, doesnt speak much, I feel we are losing him already and I dont know what to do to help him.
I hope your dietician can help you and you are able to keep positive. My dad has a new love for icecream and jelly babies!
Hi, I have found the forum very helpful but it did take over my life a bit so I do regulate how much time I spend on here. I have found a lot of the advice given has been brilliant and has been really helpful speaking with some lovely people who are in the same boat.
Wishing you all the best.
Maxine
