I was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer back in February. At first the plan was chemo then the op but things went badly wrong when the tumour made a hole in my oesophagus which resulted in a very bad lung infection. After being so ill I was told that further treatment would be problematic because I wouldn’t be strong enough and also the cancer had spread to 2 more lymph nodes. Now 6 weeks on I have made an amazing recovery from the infection and feel better than I have for ages. I had a stent fitted to block the hole which has now healed. The diet is tricky and a bit monotonous but my weight is now stable. I saw the oncologist yesterday and he is really pleased with my progress. Obviously the cancer is not curable but they are going to offer me more treatment now - radiotherapy and then more chemo. I wanted to share this because it shows how things can change and how you have to keep positive. 6 weeks ago I couldn’t walk to the end of the garden and now I am walking 3-4 miles most days. While this lasts I am going to make the most of every day!
I am extremely pleased to read this Nan, (it gave me a vision of snakes and ladders and you climbing back up the ladder)
Long may that continue.
