Hello

My husband 57 years old was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer this week via endoscopy after several months of breathlessness showed that he had anaemia (and not long Covid like he had convinced himself!). We managed to get him in for a PET scan the following day and now the anxious wait to see if it has spread and what the treatment options are. I came across this forum the next day and it saved me from the depths of despair. Just reading the posts from brave ordinary people somehow managing to carry on gave me the courage to do the same. Thank you all for being there for each other.

  • Hi, Welcome to the group, your both in the horrible bit of waiting and it is worsed bit, what are they going to do, can they treat it, and possibly worse, I have not long finished my treatment for it and am now in the second waiting game for tests to see if the treatment has worked, this cancer is my second having 2 years ago having a Laryngectomy but with that I only had an operation and no Chemo and Radiotherapy, I have to say the first was a lot easier despite the drastic action of it than this one but stay positive because as you say we are all here and getting on with it, sure you and your Husband will have low and very low days but there is light and fight on because your health team will support you all the way and the main thing is if you have a question please ask them rather than sit worrying most things they have the answer to and will support both of you through it.

    All the best

  • Thank you so much for your encouraging reply Tony, I hope your next lot of tests show that the treatment was successful. All power to you in the fight! Keep in touch, Lisa

  • Take it day by day, factoring in the knowledge you have and leaving aside what are yet only possibiliies.

Make the best use of each day in whatever way it presents itself.

    Good luck.
