I had a phone call with the cancer hospital today and they outlined my plan of treatment. I can’t have radiotherapy because one of my lymph nodes higher up is affected and they are worried about damaging my lungs. So I start chemotherapy soon-one day in the hospital for a drip every 3 weeks and tablets every day. Then hopefully surgery. I have so many fitness tests and through Yorkshire cancer research I have a personal trainer looking after me and giving me exercises!! It feels better to have a plan in place. I know it’s a huge undertaking but I am trying to stay positive!
Well nothing if not drama for me. Started feeling very unwell on Friday but then seemed to rally. By Sunday my temperature was soaring so the cancer hospital took me in. I did a lateral flow test before I went which was negative but the one in hospital came up positive. Waiting for the PCR results tomorrow. Stayed in hospital overnight and they have let me home. No more chemo for me. I only had a few days left but they have taken me off it . If I have got COVID the only place I have been is the hospital so likely it came from there. No one else in the house has it. Now I just have to wait for a scan on the 14th and Hope that the chemo has done its job.
Oh no, Nan! I am so sorry. Hope things get better soon.
How are you today,Nan? Is it definitely Covid?
I am definitely improving thanks. Stressed yesterday as the hospital said they would ring but didn’t and I ended up spending ages on the phone trying to find someone to tell me my test results. Eventually a kind nurse said she would check and it turns out I don’t have covid after all. It’s such a relief because I can now see a few people and I don’t have to completely isolate. My main problem is eating. The cough is awful and I am just never hungry. What kind of things are you managing to eat?
At least it’s not Covid! Will they put you back on the chemo.? Have they given you anything for the cough? Or told you what’s causing it? I’m able to eat pastas of all kinds, eggs, ground meats. Last night I wanted so made potato pancakes of all things! Topped with loads of Greek yogurt. The Greek yogurt is great- full of calories and protein . It goes on lots of things. I also eat ice cream. Both of those might help soothe the cough. So different from when I started the chemo! Could not eat even an egg! Hope it improves for you soon.
Thanks. I only had 4 days left on chemo but as I had been so ill the dr told me to stop taking the tablets. He would want a 10 day gap before more chemo but I am due a scan on the 14th and then they will decide on the op. You are definitely eating better than me. I find pasta tricky for some reason. They gave me a linctus for the cough which eases it for a while. They just said it’s part of the condition-my tumour is quite high up. Anyway I am feeling a bit better and I am getting up today which is progress!!
Great about getting up. That is definitely good.when I was having trouble eating I found chicken broth very soothing. Popsicles of all kinds put the fluids into your body and taste good. Whatever appeals to you ! I agree that is the best approach. Maybe some of the fruit smoothies would taste good with the Greek yogurt. Do hope you start feeling better soon.
