I had a phone call with the cancer hospital today and they outlined my plan of treatment. I can’t have radiotherapy because one of my lymph nodes higher up is affected and they are worried about damaging my lungs. So I start chemotherapy soon-one day in the hospital for a drip every 3 weeks and tablets every day. Then hopefully surgery. I have so many fitness tests and through Yorkshire cancer research I have a personal trainer looking after me and giving me exercises!! It feels better to have a plan in place. I know it’s a huge undertaking but I am trying to stay positive!
Hopefully it's temporary Nan the first time I had chemotherapy I was vomitting the whole journey 2 1/2 hours back home between London and Swindon and then when I got back I was feeling awful. The 2nd cycle I was a hell of a lot better. Hopefully it's your body adjusting. If not I am sure they will adjust the drugs to suit you. Keep your oncologist informed of all side effects.
Thé nurse at the hospital has been keeping in touch daily to see that all meds are ok . Today is the first day I’ve felt pretty good . They have must of the side effects managed now and I’m sleeping better. Now I just have to eat and drink more. That cough makes it rough for you to do much, I’m sure. Have they given you anything to stop it or relieve it besides antibiotics? Do hope it goes away soon! Feel better!
You might find a syringe helps Nan, so that when taking the liquid it is squeezed nearer the back of your tongue, protecting the front of it, and therefore, hopefully making it less numb?

Well I never thought that chemo was going to be easy but I seem to be working my way fairly steadily through the side effects! So I have been through constipation, a mild infection and in the last two days a really upset stomach. The cancer hospital were great and I spent the morning there yesterday while they checked me out yet again. Apparently I am deficient in some enzyme or other which means I am more prone to the side effects! Anyway I have had to stop the chemo tablets for a couple of days to let my body adjust. Nothing worrying came back on the blood tests so they were happy for me to go home. At least by last night I was eating again, I am obsessed with ice lollies! My daughter suggested them and it seems a good way to get liquid down!
Oh no! So sorry Nan! I’ve had the constipation followed by the upset stomach but no infection. The constipation seems to be dealt with now with 1 dulcolux at night. The upset stomach is sporadic. I tried some protein shakes as I was continuing to lose weight but my stomach didn’t like them. I’ve readjusted my eating and found good vanilla ice cream settling and filling at night so I don’t wake up starving. I also found some good protein bars. I’m on some anti nausea medication but not sure how effective it is. Anyway, hope you feel better soon.
Thanks for that. What are the protein bars you have? It’s always hard to know what I can eat. Can’t eat meat now and recently gone off fish. Bread, potatoes, pasta are all too hard to swallow. Mainly eating soup and high protein yoghurt-oh and cake! Definitely going to try the ginger suggestion . My husband and daughters are the food police around here and they’ll be happy I’m eating something different!
