Hi all, my names Neil & I was diagnosed with lower oesophageal adenocarcinoma T4bN2M0
With the tumor wrapping itself round my aorta surgery isn't an option.
My health apart from the cancer is generally good & I'm lucky enough to still be eating normal food, sometimes with a drink of water.
I was given information about the scope2 trial & decided to go for it, I have nothing to lose after all.
So I'm into the 3rd week of chemo now, I had a day receiving Cisplatin & have been taking Capecitabine daily & start the next 3 week cycle next Monday....I've been quite fortunate with very little side effects so far apart from some minor sickness
In the new year I'll be starting with the radiotherapy along with the chemo, daily sessions Monday to Friday for 5 weeks with the dosage of radiotherapy escalating to 60 units rather than the usual 50.
Has anyone else been involved with this trial at all?....how did it go?
Also can anyone tell me how the continued use of the chemo effected them...will I get sicker as the treatment goes on?
Thanks for looking in
Cheers Neil
Hi Neil and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm not a member of this group but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily seen.
I tried searching the group with the phrase 'scope2' to look for previous posts on this subject but drew a blank I'm afraid. That doesn't necessarily mean that no one else in the group is on it, it could just be that they haven't posted about their experiences yet.
While you're waiting for replies it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Wishing you all the best on the trial
x
Hey Latchbrook
Thanks for looking in & the advice
Just started my 2nd 3 week cycle & already I feel improvement in swallowing & not so aware of the tumor inside me so the signs are there that its shrinking...I guess the trick will be it not coming back, so I may be one of the lucky ones that survives this with the chemo radiotherapy apparently I'm getting large doses as part of the trial, I'm still lucky enough to be suffering minimal side effects too.
Radiotherapy starts in the new-year
Cheers Neil
