So had my first hospital appointment today saw a consultant gastroenterologist.
got told it has spread to liver and lymph nodes so incurable and no operation option, so now more waiting for oncology appointment see what they say, probably Chemo !
Hi Just seen your post. My husband is newly diagnosed, he is stage 4 and spread to lungs, stomach and liver. Not very hopeful and he is also inoperable so we will have to rely on the chemo. I know everyone says the same thing however, you DO need to believe in the treatment and stay positive, this is what will get your through it. Stay on this forum and read through the success stories, thats what keeps me going on behalf of hubby!!!!
Take care and stay in touch
Love Edwina xx

Hi Mark61
My names Neil & was diagnosed with my lower oesophagus having a tumor caused by undiagnosed barretts & a hiatus hernia
I've been through all the scans & though it has progressed it hasn't spread to any other major organs, just a couple of nearby lymph nodes, great you would think, then i had an endoscopic ultrasound & it was discovered the tumor has grown through my oesophagus & is now wrapped around my aorta, so surgery isn't an option, to be honest the more I thought about the surgery & quality of life post operation the less inclined I would have been to go through it, I'm at the point not where I'd rather have quality over quantity, I'm 54 now.
So I was referred to the oncologist & I'm taking part in the scope2 trial which involves a Monday chemo session on a drip followed by 3 weeks of chemo tablets, I think I have 3 or 4 cycles of that then just after the new year I start radiotherapy but getting 60 units of radiation rather than the usual 50.
Going into week 3 now of the 1st cycle & the side effects haven't really been a big problem apart from some sickness, to be honest I'm struggling more mentally at the moment, not that I'm scared, more about having a feeling of uselessness.
Best if luck to you Mark, my only advice is make the time you have left matter.
Take care Neil
Hi Mark,
How you feeling physically buddy and how is your eating? I am also stage 4 and was told it's incurable it's a tough piece of news to take, but there are many success stories in here and it's time to be positive, believe in the treatments and look after yourself. I like to think of fighting cancer like a boxing march if you are in the fight you always have options to keep going. If you are soon to start chemo take a look at my profile where I have shared my experience. My advice would be to prepare yourself get yourself some really good moisturiser from the Dr dermol 500 is great, get yourself a sensitive toothbrush and sensitive toothpaste and think about an electric blanket and thermals as you will be susceptible to cold. Chemo drys out your skin and mouth from my experience so get ahead of the game the cancer club is free and easy to join charity for men in a similar situation. We have a what's app group and help eachother out.
Hi PB46...thanks for the kind words
I'm cracking in with it, just going into week 3 of the 2nd cycle...side effects this time round have been more severe but still tolerable, I'm also seeing an improvement in my condition with swallowing food becoming easier in fact I'm eating normal meals without the need for liquid to wash it down.
3rd cycle starts early in the new year along with radiotherapy 5 days a week for 5 weeks along side the Cisplatin & Capecitabine...the radiotherapy will escalate to 60Gy as part of the trial.
Should be fun....hmmmm
Cheers Neil
