Afternoon all,i done all my awful chemo etc,i got my surgery on the 18th October 21.i live on my own so can

i get a Macmillan nurse to come into my home when i am recovering?

Many thks,Paul

  • Hello Paul

Well done getting through the chemo, not too long to wait for your op, that’s good too.

If you live alone you must not be sent home without a care package in place, the hospital should arrange this for you and it should be tailored to your needs.  I’m not sure if it will be a Macmillan nurse (unless you have one already), it’s more likely to be a district nurse.  As you have a bit of time before your operation it’s worth checking with the hospital to make sure they are aware of your circumstances and when you have your pre op appointment mention it again so that it’s definitely on your records.

    Take care.

Iwill mention it on the 1st october,i got 2 c 2 people,no idea wat its for?

  • Hi Paul

If all has gone well, then your Op will still be on Monday, I was wondering how you are doing, and whether you had organised support for when you return home.

Hello, the hospital said i wont need any support?

  • Hello Paul

I’m surprised the hospital have said that, did they say how long you are likely to be in for?  I know it’s a long time since my husband’s op and I may well be a bit out of touch but you really should have something in place for when you get home. It doesn’t seem realistic to send you home to fend for yourself after such major surgery.  Have you spoken to your GP about this?  Time is a bit short now with surgery on Monday but do ask a few more questions so you know what to do if you end up needing help, even a phone call to Macmillan might be a good idea (number is just above in Lowe’s post).

I hope all goes well on Monday, take care and good luck with everything. J x

i dont know anymore,i sort of given up.fed up with it all

  • Paul that’s quite understandable, maybe you should just go in on Monday and see how your recovery goes - you can then decide whether you can cope or not and go from there.  It’s all overwhelming and it must be even more so on your own, hopefully it will all be fine and the hospital will help you get sorted.
