Hi all,
Hubby is due to have a blood transfusion, basically he was a bit anaemic and his red blood cells were low, was feeling very tired and no energy etc, we haven't had one before. Just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of blood transfusions they could share?
I'm wondering how long it takes to "kick in" that you feel better, and how long it lasts.. also any warning signs I need to keep an eye out for post transfusion?
Thank you in advance,
x
Hi there!
I had couple of transfusions and they really helped me. As everyone us different I couldn't say how your hubby would feel.
I had a really positive effect whilst I had these through chemo.
I can't really remember much but I was energetic and sort of revived if you know what I mean.
I hope all goes well with this.
Let us know how it all goes.
Regards, Rf2k18
Hello Yani10
I have had many transfusions. Usually just one unit (about 300 ml) but on one or two occasions I needed two. Each time I went from feeling total loss of energy, tired and lethargic to well and truly perked up. The treatment takes about 3 hours so it's worth taking a bite to eat and a drink and something to read or do. I have never had any adverse side effects touch wood. Even my appetite came back.
I am having my blood checked weekly to keep an eye on my Hb (red blood cell) count rather than waiting until I feel tired again.
I hope this helps. All the best.
