Dendritic Cell Therapy

Hi all,

I am currently having dendritic cell therapy for my glioblastoma near Munich. This treatment was delayed because my 21yr old son had a bad crash. (he has his own Glioma and he had been seizure free for 18mth and had just got his licence back.) He had a seizure while driving and was very lucky to survive and not hurt someone else. He cleared a hedge and landed in field.

Anyway he is doing OK now but gutted about losing his licence (we live in a small village with no public transport) but at least he is alive to tell the tale and no one else was hurt.

The jury is still out with dendritic cell therapy (DCT) in terms of the quality of the data and survival stats however the stats the were presented to me are that it improves your 5 year survival rates from 5% to 15%. Maybe not that much in the grand scheme of things or depending on your point of view it increases your chances 3 times of surviving 5 yrs!

I seem to be doing quite well however, apart from my right leg which basically just does it's own thing, I had a couple of bad falls and my short term memory is now shockingly bad. Just yesterday I was catching a bus from Berg to my Airbnb 5 miles away and I got on the bus and left my rucksack (which had my passport, phone money etc in it) behind in the bus shelter. Luckily my host dove me back and it was still there. T

They took blood off me today and gave a vitamin boost and I return on the 10/2 for the infusion. Personally I think that it is a real shame this treatment is not available on the NHS.

    • HI

I hope the treatment works out for you. I agree that its a real shame that there are not more treatment options readily available on the NHS.

So sorry to hear about your son's crash. Scary for all of you and glad he's ok. It could easily have been so much worse.

I assume even although you are getting your treatment in Germany that your NHS team are being kept in the loop? If you're noticing changes/new symptoms it would be an idea to keep them up to speed.

sending love and light and hugs

    • My oncologist at Preston is brilliant and has a great sense of humour, on top of the Germany Treatment I am getting a second opinion from my sons oncologist/surgeon. So I am basically three timing him which thankfully he sees the funny side off.
