Hi
Yesterday my wife's MRI revealed her tumour has grown since June. She had just finished her chemo treatment this week and had the scan to see if surgery, radiation and chemo since February had worked.
We are yet to talk with the medical oncologist, but our surgeon thought that possibly no surgery at this stage but Avastin could be an option.
I am keen to hear from someone who has been diagnosed with a Glioblastoma grade 4 that has also had Temozolomide treatment that was not fully effective and then consequently had the Avastin treatment.
Was the Avastin treatment successful and compared with Temozolomide, how bad were the side effects?
Hoping someone can respond
Thank you!
Hi
My husband had standard protocol of radiotherapy and Temozolomide but it didn't work.
We were offered Avastin and he had 7 rounds of it. I can't absolutely say that it worked but I do believe that it give him a little more time.
Side effects were very little . Some minor bruises without any injury and the day after treatment he looks like a toddler getting a back tooth - bright red cheek!
Therefore I would suggest you go for it
Unfortunately my husband passed away (peacefully) on 27th Feb 2021
Hope this helps
Hi Jarred
sorry to hear that your wife's treatment has been as effective as you'd both hoped.
My husband was diagnosed with a GBM4 a year ago but after surgery and the 6 weeks of chemo(TMZ) and radiotherapy he declined all other treatment so I'm afraid I can't comment on Avastin.
I hope however by responding to your initial message, it boosts the post and that perhaps another member of this group has some insights to offer to support what Life Detour has already said.
