Hi

Have been diagnosed and starting treatment after Boxing Day they are using R-CHOP treatment my cancer is in my stomach and spread to the chest they tell me that is quite common with this form of F Lymphoma

They tell me my first chemo session will last between 6 and 7 hrs and I will be stopping in hospital for at least overnight then I will have Chemo as an outpatient in three 3 week cycles

Just wondered if anyone can give me an idea of what to expect I know the hair loss etc just wondered how I will be feeling in the days after treatment

Any useful information for me and my wife we would be grateful

  • Hi Fred just been looking back at the start and remember how you felt when treatment was cancelled and then they found you a bed and you were happy again, this is no different. Just a little hiccup that will sort itself, I cannot remember if your masses were large, but do remember you had a few, we all know large masses leave scar tissue, mine was around 5cm x 4cm post treatment after 8 rounds so its more than likely that's what yours are. When I got the news on the phone after the scan saying more treatment it took a short while to get my head around it and park up the disappointment, but I did and you will. I focussed on the fact I was told I would have scar tissue before treatment even started and therefore when I met with the consultant it was lots of questions as to why they thought radiotherapy should be next and what were the options and could it be a false positive. So for me focusing on needing to be convinced more treatment was really needed meant I parked up the disappointment.

So this could play out the same for you and having things to keep you busy and something to focus on should lift you out of the doldrums and the is nothing better than a party. So tell yourself the treatment has worked and they are playing safe with the next scan and until you are convinced more treatment is needed then thats you finished with chemo for now. Keep busy and enjoy each day, my outlook on life now is if I wake up its a good day and they is nothing anyone can do to make it a bad bad one, yes problems occur but they can all be dealt with in one way or another. celebrate another year and enjoy your family, I am sure they can make you smile.

    Happy birthday for tomorrow

    Hi Fred,

    Firstly happy birthday for tomorrow.

It is slightly disappointing news but take heart.......My mass was huge, so a lot of matter to get rid of and actually almost impossible.  I am left with a tennis ball size lump of scar tissue in my abdomen.  There no evidence of activity and the only issue I have is it makes me look a little fatter than I should do.

    Best Wishes

    Tina

  • For me it would be a Aedbeg Uigeadail Single Malt......and the picture below shows our four granddaughters.

Without going on my Magical Mystery (Treatment) Tour I would have not have meet the front two in the photo - stuff like this is pure motivation to keep your eyes on the long game and the greater good.

    Happy Birthday.

    Hi Fred,

my consultant said to me that they wouldn’t do a ct scarab at the end because it often looks like there is still something there due to scar tissue and that the PET scan will give you the real result. Hence, I’d imagine if I had had a CT scan instead of a PET scan that they would have said it was inconclusive until the PET scan.

so here’s hoping that the PET scan gives you the al clear we are all hoping for for you.

    Happy Birthday Fred!

If I remember correctly you too are a dog lover and owner.  I find spending time with the pooch helps.  I love the idea of a bbq if it is in your wheelhouse.  I try to watch my diet.  Who knows if it helps, but on top of the balanced diet I try to eat more blueberries and nutrient dense, increase my vegetable intake, but then every now and then i just let myself cheat.  I cook up a bunch of sticky bbq ribs, I enjoy a favorite dessert.

I saw a line on Pintrest that is probably cheesy, but I liked it "Cancer is so last year. This year my mission is remission." I hope that is true for all  of us.

Thank you for the birthday wishes.

Yes I have two dogs a Jack Russell (Bandit) that's 14 years old and a Boarder Terrier (Teazle) that's just turned 7 years old and I spend a lot of time with then and walk at least 3 miles a day with them out in the countryside around us, that's the joy of living in a village

We have just had a new patio built in our garden but the weather this weekend is for rain so maybe will have to wait for better weather for the BBQ

    Hi Fred,

Firstly and most importantly Happy Birthday for tomorrow Tada

Whatever you choose to do make sure that you mark the occasion and celebrate somehow.

This is hopefully ( Fingers crossed tone1 ) just a minor blip and after the PET scan they will tell you that it is just scar tissue that is causing the shadows. Reading the comments earlier it certainly sounds like this is a common problem.

You have come so far and have done so well there is NO way that it is going to beat you now - live for the moment - and enjoy your birthday

Thanks everybody for the birthday wishes, having a lovely time thank you

Got over the disappointment of my consultation and looking on the bright side but be glad when I have my PET CT scan and get the results

Obviously the chemo has worked as it's now only a couple of small shadows that are showing instead of lots of tumours so all being well fingers crossed it's just scar tissue, but if it is the worst a couple more chemo sessions or radiotherapy should put the bugger to bed

Thanks again love you all xx
