Hi,
My name is Jo & on Tuesday 4th Jan 2020 I went for appointment at Moorfields in London & after all the tests was told it was cancer I will be having my left eye removed within the next month.
Be nice to speak to others who have gone through this and had an eye removed.
What should I expect? Is it easy to adjust to only 1 eye?
hi ,iv just popped in to see how you are getting on i hope everything is ok and all went well , x daisie
When you get a proper prosthesis it will look better.
hi ,,will it i do hope so i hate the look of it all so my bottom lid is slightly drooping think this eye may be a bit too big ,i go on wednesday 4th march for my impression for my perminent eye could you tell me how long ill have to wait for it to be done thanks for your reply
I have used the Artificial Eye Service and Moorfields, both NHS, and found it seems to take weeks between the moulding and actually getting the eye. I think I waited about six weeks. I find the whole waiting thing far too long.
had the moulding done today i was told 6 to 10 weeks it is a long time to wait thanks for getting back
Well here I am 8 days post op.....all went really well and recovering well.
Advice if turning head and not eyes has been great advice when wanting to look at something. Last day today of antibiotics but still 3 weeks of eye drops to go.....pretty good with doing them, aim ,re n hit target on 1st go
back at moorfields on 28th for check up, but am now looking forward to prosthetic eye so I look more normal.
Everyone at moorfields was fantastic and had excellent care.
Hi Daisie,
What's it like going through that process......few weeks away from this stage but be good to know what to expect when I get date for appointment.
Jo
hi jo ,im so glad all went well and you are feeling good ,my prosses for the tempory eye was ok ,you go into a room to ever will be putting the eye in for you theres loads of eyes already made up she got one the nearest to match mine but its a shade darker pupil than mine but its ok ,iv had it in since the 18th december she wouldnt let me leave the room till she saw me put it in myself which was a good thing i suppose ,i went to have a moulding on wednesday for my perminent eye i was in her room 2 and half hours ,she had to get everything perfect its the same stuff they put in your eye what they have at the dentist when doing impressions there was quite a lot invoved to get it right ,she finaly got everything done with the cast now she sends it all off to be made up to look exactly lke my eye .the waiting now is 6-10 weeks she said quite some time to wait then next prosses is to go back and have it fitted fingers crossed hope it looks good i said its a shame we cant see through it .keep me updatd on your progress x daisie
yesterday I closed my good and confirmed "nope cant see a thing"
had a mad moment but did make me laugh.
It is a pity we dont have bionic eyes......maybe one day it will be possible.
Thank you so much for the explanation of what is involved, I now know what to expect when I go
I am looking forward to getting my new eye but must admit not looking forward to the cleaning of the lens hopefully I will get used to it as I know it has to be done.
