Return of eye cancer

Hi I had Proton Beam radiotherapy 11 years ago for eye cancer and it has decided to grow again in my eye.  I currently have vision still in that eye but no peripheral vision.  I have been offered total removal of my eye and go down a prosthetic eye or sterotactic radiosurgery and I am at complete loss off which way to go.  Has anyone been in the same situation or had the sterotactic radiosurgery that they can feedback to me on please.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that your cancer has returned after 11 years. That must have come as quite a shock to you after all that time.

I don't have the experiences you're looking for but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where hopefully it'll be spotted by someone who does.

If you haven't already you could type separately 'sterotactic radiosurgery' and 'removal of eye' into the group search bar as this will bring up previous posts on these topics. You could then have a look through those and respond to any of the more recent posters if you want to ask them any questions.

While you're waiting for replies it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Do come back and let us know what you decide to do

  • Hello Debbie

I'm so gutted for you as know you must be going through living hell yet again. I'm very sorry but  I cannot offer advice (I'm still awaiting news on my own proton beam results)... all I can say is  I know making the decision is hard especially when left to yourself with two options. Best of luck with your decision and I hope you get the answers you need to make an informed choice.

  • Hi Debbie.   I'm so  sorry to hear you cancer has come back. I too have got cancer in my eye and have had treatment but more complications after proton beam .  I now have to go with having my eye removed just waiting for date. I am petrified but I have no other choice. I look at it this way once that eye is removed I am cancer free. I know t still have to have six monthly MRIs for thr next ten years but I will take my chance. I hope it all goes well for you Debbie as I'm sure it will x
