I am worried that I might have eye cancer (found a small lump on my eye ball whilst rubbing my eyes - near the ciliary body area).

I have been reading so many of your posts on here and I was wondering if anyone was diagnosed after finding a lump or physical change to their eye? A lot of the posts on here mentions that it all started from an eye test at the opticians.

I know googling is the worst thing to be doing and not the best tool to self diagnose but I am naturally a worrier especially with two very young toddlers and I can’t seem to think about anything else since. I had a video consultation from a GP but he didn’t seem concerned and told me to apply hot compression and it will go away, it’s been a week or two now but it is still very much there.

I was hoping to read more about the process from experiencing symptoms to being diagnosed if anyone would kindly like to share?

Thank you x

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

It's natural that you're worried about a lump you've discovered on your eyeball but you've done the right thing in speaking to your GP. If it's gone past the time when your GP said that it should have gone by, then do give him a call to update him. He may decide that this needs further investigation.

Eye cancer is very rare and is usually detected when having a routine eyesight check at your opticians. This information from Macmillan gives some symptoms that can mean eye cancer while this information from Cancer Research tells you about the various types of eye cancer. However, as with all types of cancer, having symptoms doesn't mean that you have cancer as there are often many other things than can cause similar or the same symptoms.

The best thing to do is to speak again with your GP.

  • Hi

I'm just checking in to see how you're doing and whether you've spoken to your GP again about your concerns?
