Hi all I hope this message finds you all in good spirits.

I have recently been referred to moorfields for what’s believed to be Iris melanoma not really keen on searching the internet as when I did it put the fear of the worst case scenario.

anyone with and advice would be hugely appreciated my appointment in moorfields is this Friday

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

You are right that google is definitely not your friend at the moment. We've all done it, gone on looking for reassurance only to come away feeling worse than before.

Try to concentrate on just one step at a time. You have an appointment at Moorfields Eye Hospital tomorrow and hopefully you'll come away knowing a lot more than you do now.

Write down any questions you want to ask and take them with you because, if you're anything like me, once you get in front of the consultant you'll forget everything you wanted to ask. Write down the answers too and if you don't understand something don't be afraid to ask. Sometimes consultants forget that what's every day to them is completely new to us. As for what questions to ask, you could print off this list and use it as a starting point.

Do come back and let us know how it goes tomorrow

So today I was diagnosed with Iris Melanoma and for some strange reason I feel a weight has been lifted of my shoulders. I know I have a bumpy road still ahead but at least I can look into The future.

  • Hi

How are you feeling this morning?

It is a strange fact but a lot of people feel like you do when diagnosed. I think a lot of the worry and anxiety goes once you know what you're dealing with. Were you told what the treatment plan is yesterday?

Because iris melanomas are usually easy to spot they are usually found at an early stage. According to Cancer Research "they are usually slow growing and rarely spread to other parts of the body."
