Hi,

I wonder if any of you have similar experiences?

I've had optical issues with my left eye for 11 months now...I've had multiple OCT scans, USS and FA and IG angiography.

I was sent away in June and told I'd be reviewed every 3 months.

Obviously with covid 19  that hasn't happened and my blurred vision is no better.

I went for a second opinion today and have been referred to Sheffield ocular oncology service.

I am absolutely terrified. I have 2 kids. What if they have missed cancer for 11 months!!?

How do I keep sane until I'm seen?

Thank you

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm really sorry to read how absolutely terrified you feel at the thought that a cancer may have been missed.

Whilst it's natural to worry that your problems could be caused by cancer, if you feel very anxious you may benefit from talking to your GP about how you feel. He or she may be able to arrange for you to speak to a therapist who can help you deal with your emotions. Macmillan produce this helpful information on getting help with your emotions.

Do you have a date yet to be seen at Sheffield? From personal experience I found the best way to take my mind off waiting was to keep myself busy. Do you have any hobbies that you could indulge in? I found that doing something I enjoyed stopped my mind from wandering to the 'what ifs'.

    Hi,

I was diagnosed with a melanoma in my eye at Sheffield in October. But when I went in for cryotherapy and the biopsy to remove the melanoma the biopsy came and it had spread to back of my eye.

To say the words cancer and tumour has been terrible for me. I was told I would need radiotherapy straight away, so last Monday on 21st I went and had the radiotherapy plaque on my eye for 24hours.

The staff and surgeons at Hallam Hospital in Sheffield have been fantastic.

You will be in very safe hands if you need any advice please ask as I had no one really who i knew who had this condition as it very rare x

  • Hi

How are you after having radiotherapy?

My melanoma was on my skin but I am also looked after by the staff at Hallamshire Hospital and agree that they are fantastic and very caring.

Thanks very much for replying to several of the more recent posts here and I hope that those you've reached out to will have taken some comfort from your replies.

    Hi,

Thanks for responding, feeling ok, then come over very tired all over sudden but it from radiation.

How did you feel? And how long will I feel like this?

My hair has started come out and eyelashes have gone thin on the eye I had the tumour in.

But I am very lucky it was caught in time and has spead to rest of my body.

And that I was treated so quick from having my biopsy and diagnosis in October and now radiotherapy in December.

    Thankfully

  • Hi

I can't answer your question as to how long you'll feel tired I'm afraid as I didn't have radiotherapy for my melanoma.

As mine was a skin melanoma it was removed with surgery and then I had follow up surgery and a sentinel lymph node biopsy. I felt tired for a few days after the second lot of surgery but took it easy and definitely felt back to normal after about a week.

Just read your story and it was on your arm, hope it doesn't return for you.

I am praying mine doesn't I don't want to go through that plaque radiotherapy and cryotherapy again in my life time, being very painfully in my eye.

  • I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us Fingers crossed
