I was diagnosed with Chorodial melanoma may 2019 ! I had a very anxious time ! And a few meltdowns and fear of I might just die at any time!

I had Ruthanium plaque treatment ,two operations ! One to put the plaque in And four days later one to take it out ! I’ve since had two Liver Scans

and both clear ! It was a very anxious time for me but the support of others on this group helped me immensely ! Thank’ you everyone for all your shared experiences !

just had appointment at hospital and great news The tumour is now flat! HaD eye test and chose  new specs today ! I don’t have any central-vision on the left eye ! Just some peripheral sight!

I have very good vision in my right eye which is Fabulous! I feel so blessed to have had my cancer diagnosed and treated quickly ! I cannot thank

everyone Doctors Surgeons and  and staff for there skills and care during this time ! Gartnaval Hospital Great Western Road Glasgow ! The staff are amazing people!
I hope to continue living my life to to the best I can be ! I hope if anyone reads this it might help them a little to know it can be fixed and we can continue with our lives

  • That's great news ! I certainly hope you've had a little celebration.

Although I'm not a member of this group, I normally reside in the melanoma group, I noticed your good news post. If you feel able it would be great if you could pop into the group every so often to let newcomers know that being diagnosed with cancer can have a successful outcome.

Thats great to hear, I had my radiotherapy plaque on my eye on 21st December and I am just recovering and getting my sight back today.

So glad to hear some positive news.

How did you feel after the plaque removal?  I still feel when close my eyes the plaque is still there!! And i feel so tired, when does the feeling go away.

    Thanks

That is such an encouraging story to read! I have just been diagnosed in the last few days and I have an appointment at Gartnaval in Glasgow on Thursday. Lovely to hear that the staff there were fantastic and you had a really good experience. It was all it’s also very interesting to hear about your story, the timescale and how you got on with the treatment. I am just starting out on this journey so it’s good to know that there can be a positive outcome.

    Thank you for sharingSmiley,

I have recently (July) had the same treatment as you at Gartnavel and second everything you have said about the the Consultants and staff that I met during this. Amazing! Your journey has given me hope that there is positivity out there. I’ve had to accept the gradual loss of my central vision.. the bloody thing parked itself right next to that. The future scans are my fear but your post has certainly helped me

I’m so pleased to hear that you have had your treatment. The staff in the hospital in Gartnaval are amazing, I had one or two questions and a bit of irritation in my eye after my treatment in March and they had me in the hospital the same day to check it over. It’s fantastic that you know you’ve got that kind of support waiting if you need it. Try and take each day And each block of time as it comes. The three month scan should give you reassurance that things are on the right track and the same again after another three months. my tumour was already showing signs of shrinking after the first three month scan, My next scan is at the end of September. Keeping everything crossed you get good news after your first scan and that will give you lots of reassurance for the next ones. Good luck with your continued recovery, and know that there are others of us out there who have gone through what you have gone through. I am going back to work n cut week for the first time since my treatment Earlier this year. Things do get back to something like normal life eventually. Take it easy, and take the rest that you need.

Thank you for that lovely message! I have  an online consultation in September and really not sure what that will entail because they haven’t seen my eye since. Does an appointment come later for that? Hope you don’t mind me asking but I’m not really sure where things go now with the outcome of the plaque. I was diagnosed with a stage 1 melanoma - 2mm after an eye test.. I don’t wear glasses.. was a very sudden awareness of being out of focus now and again hence I went thinking age thing etc.. glasses job done. That was May.. June Gartnavel clinic 1st July I had it done. So quick! It’s so good to speak to others who get it.  I didn’t even know eye cancer was a thing let alone a freckle in an eye.

I was exactly the same! I didn't know you could get cancer in your eye. Yes, that was exactly the same as me, having been diagnosed the treatment happened very quickly. I had one or two issues with my eye after my treatment at the hospital were great, I was in the same day getting checked over. I had an online appointment with the consultant, I think it was about 6 to 8 weeks after my procedure. That was just to have a general chat about how things were going. My first scan was in Glasgow after three months and that was for my eye to check that things were still okay. In a few weeks time I will be getting my six month scan : the liver one is being arranged locally but I have to go back to Glasgow for the eye scan.  Hope that helps :-)
