Hi everyone,
I finally got a liver/abdomen MRI two weeks ago. I was told on the day that I would hear back from the consultant there within one to two weeks. I still haven't heard anything and it has been two full weeks. Is this normal?? How long do others wait for MRI results? Thanks.
Hi 1967C welcome to the forum. I have had the same issue at my end re a 3 month with for an MRI. I'm not sure why either unless it's maybe a shortage of qualified radiographers or people to operate machinery etc. My Consultant reverted to an Ultrasound as that would give him the same or similar information. Just some thoughts and I hope that you get this sorted out for you soon. Best wishes for now. Gailx
Sorry to hear this. I’ve generally waited 2-3 weeks although for the last one I had to wait 7-8 weeks. The wait was very stressful and this time I’m going private and will have the results in 2 days. Worth the £750. Good luck
Thanks Gail, I appreciate your info. Best wishes to you too.x
Hi Surfer boy, thanks for this, wow, a 7-8 week wait for results?? Was the last one from the same hospital and took longer, or from a different hospital? I hate to kind of let the NHS 'off', but it might be worth going private I guess. I suppose it depends on my results. The radiographer assured me it would only take 1-2 weeks and to phone if I hadn't heard by then. I will have to phone on Monday now I suppose. It is horrible waiting, watching the post every day. I can't wait 7-8 weeks! I get worse liver mets symptoms every week! So much for the urgent cancer pathway in this country, it's actually a joke. I keep thinking "There is nothing I can do even if I do have liver mets, so why does it matter anyway?" !! Take care, hope all is okay with you?
Hi, I phoned the radiology dept this morning as they told me to phone if it had been over two weeks since the MRI. He could only tell me that the results have been written up and have been sent to the "haemotology and oncology dept" at the Oxford hospital. I don't know if this is because the consultant who ordered them is from there or if it is because this is where the results have to be sent if there is a haematology and cancer problem!! Do you know? Thanks Surfer Boy!
With myself, the results get sent back to my GP, who then tells me the results. Perhaps you could ring the radiology department again for clarification?
Best wishes
