my son has refused treatment for his lymphoma started in tonsils were removed last year
has spread to lymph nodes in neck and swollen too much very stiff ,has swollen arm
I am lost to what to do as he has refused treatment and believes he can cure himself
what can I do
hi my son is back in hospital as breathing was effected agreed treatment in a/e was put on steroids and now swelling has reduced slightly has gone back to say does not want treatment chemo due to side effects and feels its a door open to create other cancers and feels he will have a life in out of hospital
I don't know how to encourage to have a treatment that yes has all this and that to go with it ?
HilMae thank you for your response I will update shortly still trying to get him to agree to treatment
Hi , I am so pleased that he is finding some relief through having the steroids and let’s hope that this helps a ‘penny to drop’ in his mind.
I would say that the most long term issues I had during my treatment was the ups and downs from having steroids and on the whole the chemo was actually not that bad in comparison.
His thinking that chemo can bring on other cancers is a block in his mind and yes it is possible but without treatment he most likely won’t have to face that he will be facing larger issues.
I know that this will sound rather morbid but have you discussed DNR (Do not resuscitate) arrangements with him as you would not want him to suffer when it came to this point and what his funeral arrangement will be as this could end up giving him a rather big reality check.
((hugs))
Good morning , it’s the first time I have ever been delighted to hear someone is having treatment for cancer
This must be such a relief he has changed his mi d and well done you being beside him supporting him at this very hard time.
If you could find out the exact name of the treatment (R-CHOP....etc) we can help out as we have folks who have had most types.
The important thing now is that his view of saving his life has changed position in his thinking, yes he will have bumps on the road but this is do-able.
A couple of initial tips:
He does need to try and keep some activity going during treatment as this will help overcome the Fatigue that may come along.
His team have lots of drugs that will deal with Nausea, he must not suffer this in silence but tell his team as this part initially is trial and error.
Avoiding Infections is important as during his treatment his body won’t be able to fight the same.
He does need to drink lots of water to flush the toxins from the chemo out of his system protecting his kidneys.
Keep posting as we can help you all get through this ((hugs))
pleased for you and him, now lets see him get some relief from his symptoms and we are happy to continue to offer support and advice and share our stories and experiences
