Hi, starting methotrexate treatment after finishing 6 rounds of chemo at the end of May. Can anyone tell me what to expect. Thanks

  • Hi again  let’s look for any group members who have had methotrexate to pick up on your post.

  • Hi Gingerninjer

My husband had 6 rounds of R-chop which he finished last October. During that time he had 3 cycles of intrathecal methotrexate and then 2 hospital stays for high dose methotrexate. They were 3 weeks apart. I remember before he started the treatment, he was given 2 huge plastic containers in which he had to pass all his urine. I can’t remember how long that was for but transporting them to hospital was funJoy

He tolerated the 2 cycles well according to the doctors. He found having to do pass urine into the cardboard containers and buzzing for staff to check each time very frustrating. He was on continuous intravenous fluids.

He did have an episode of diarrhoea on the 2nd dose but the staff quickly gave him something to deal with that. His appetite stayed good.

Obviously lots of monitoring and the blood test to check for the Methotrexate level had to go to a special lab at a different hospital. Once that level was acceptable he was discharged.

He was incredibly tired but after all the treatments he’d been through, that’s not surprising.

Wishing you all the best for your treatment.

  • Hi , thanks for getting back to me, I haven’t been able to get in touch with anyone who has had the high dose methotrexate, so it’s good to get some info. I came in today and am now having a rehydration drip, they’ll start the treatment early tomorrow morning. I can hardly waitJoy
