Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with CLL just over a year ago after finding a swelling in my neck. I'm due to start treatment next week I'm feeling really nervous I can't talk to my partner about it as he's struggling to deal with it shopping you wonderful understanding people might be able to reassure me

  • Hi and welcome to this corner of the Community although always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our blood cancer groups.

I don’t have CLL but was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare incurable but treatable type of skin Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Stage 4a and although my blood cancer ‘type’ is different I have experienced most types of treatments used but not necessarily the exact same drug mix.

The thought if treatment often turns out to be worse than actually have the treatment……. have you been told the exact name of the treatment?

I have had ‘a lot’ of treatment over my 22years most was not a problem with some rather challenging but the most important thing is it worked and I am in remission and living a great life (see my profile)

There are a few folks joined the group lately so let’s see them pick up on your post.

Your partners reaction is normal, the word cancer instantly brings fear and the mind goes down old stories about other people but blood cancer are much different with great results. The more he understands the better he will be able to deal with it.

Do also check out Lymphoma Action, a small UK Lymphoma Specific Charity who have lots of information, videos and run regular regional online Lymphoma Zoom support groups and indeed a great Lymphoma Buddy Service.

Always around to talk and help out.

    • Yes starting off with obinutuzumab then venetoclax. This has happened really quickly in comparison to other peoples stories. Most people have had CLL for years before they treat it. I was only diagnosed a year ago.
    • Thanks for your reply though
  • Every journey is so different you can put obinutuzumab then venetoclax into the search Mag tool near the top and have a look at older posts.
