Hi

My husband has just been diagnosed with CLL. He has an enlarged lymph nodes in his neck and abdomen. The haematologist said they would have to start treatment as the lymph node in his neck is quite bulky. He said my husband, who is 82, would be able to cope with the treatment as it was very gentle. We thought he said the drugs were targeted therapy and not chemotherapy. But he gave us some leaflets about them and it mentions chemotherapy. I wondered if anyone else had been on this medication - Obinutuzumab and Venetoclax. We would be grateful for any information. Thank you.

  • Good evening.

They are a form of chemotherapy but targetted.
I have been taking Ibinutrib and Venetoclax since February.

I have felt absolutely fine. Sometimes a little tired. My only issue is that I bruise easily and my nails are brittle but I take calcium tablets and that has sorted the latter problem.
I’m sure he will be absolutely fine. The hsp will monitor his bloods regularly as well so will detect if he has any reactions.
they will no doubt give him some additional tablets to support the treatment  eg allupurinol to reduce uric acid.

My consultant told me that the drugs both do the same thing and reduce the rogue cells but taken together they lengthen the space between any reoccurence.
    wishing him well.

  • Thank you for your quick reply Smedley. That's very reassuring. Wishing you well with your recovery.
