I was wondering if any CLL diagnosed people on this Forum are a little worried about the Autumn roll out of the Covid Booster/Flu vaccine.
I have had all my Covid Vaccinations up to now, but I feel a little anxious about having the Flu vaccine alongside the Covid Vaccine too.
I have read that one will be given in each arm.. As we know, with CLL our Immune Systems are not as strong as in a healthy person. So, would
our bodies be able to cope with the double vaccinations we are given? is it an overload for our Immune system? I know they are both very important to have, my only concern is having them at the same time.
I would be grateful if anyone has felt similar, or can give me reassurance that its fine to have both together. I know my Doctor will say its safe and to go ahead, and more important to be protected.. I think I am looking for reassurance from like minded people in this Community. Thankyou
Hi Rusticsoul,
Not experienced Covid/flu vaccines at the same time but I did, last year, get pneumonia/Shingles, one in each arm at the same time.
There were no adverse reactions.
I'm sure the Covid/Flu vaccines wouldn't be given together if there were risk of adverse events.

I had my Flu and covid jabs at the same time last year. Absolutely no problems especially as I am post 2 Stem Cell Transplants (SCT) that have left my counts at the low side of acceptable.
I also had my flu jab along with some of my post SCT childhood re-vaccinations and one year with my Pneumococcal jab.
As for no antibodies….both my Heamatology and SCT consultants keep saying that it’s not all about antibodies as the main tool to fight infection is our T-Cell levels and these are not normally tested but as I have lived with my T-Cell NHL for over 23 years this is regularly tested….. I had covid back in March and out of 6 others in our family I was totally fine compared to some of the others.
Hi Mike P
Thankyou for your reply. That is good to know and I feel reassured.
Hi Mike-Thehighlander
Thankyou for your reply. That is very encouraging news and I am pleased that you have had no adverse effects
from your vaccines.
That is so interesting too that you did not have Covid as badly as others in your family.
I appreciate your reply

At that point I had had 3 vaccinations the 3rd being on 5th Nov 4 months before developing covid. I did full on shield for that first year or so but eventually my consultants said that I had to get life back on tack so apart from close contact crowded places we lived life as normal as restrictions allowed, out for meals, holiday….
Covid is now being seen as endemic to the point that in Scotland covid testing will not tend to be done when people come into hospital, masks are starting to be phased out in some medical situations, this is based on the positive effects that the vaccine system has had on the population but also (in my consultants words) our bodies are developing the system of identifying these infections and attacking it.
Coming from having two Allo (donor) SCTs I totally get this as at the point of getting the new ‘clean’ Stem Cells my bonemarrow was not producing any blood counts so no white, red, Neuts, platelets so my body reprogrammed itself taking the stem cells and developing a new system mine system and continues to do this 6 years out from my last SCT.
This is so uplifting to hear. I am very pleased you have been able to get back to a normal way of life. I fully agree, we need to all get our lives back to some normality, which is being seen in public places now and I have noticed how masks are now starting to be phased out.
Our bodies are so inept at protecting and fighting for us. I totally agree with what your Consultant said.
After the kind response I have had today and good advice, I feel confident in going ahead and having my Covid Booster and Flu vaccine at the same time. I have had no effects at all from previous vaccine doses, so feel confident I am protecting myself in time for the Winter Viruses.
Many Thanks
