Dear all,
I was referred to hematolgy due to rising lymphocytes last year. I am only 47 years old.
I asked for a private referral initially.
They managed to get some marrow from the sternum, having tried from the hip. This was all around the time of the first anniversary of my husband's death, December just gone.
Earlier this year I asked my GP to go back on NHS. Our local hematology department can not see me for a few months so my GP is going to chase this for me.
Privately, they wanted to do more blood test - flow cytometry/immuno something or another. There was mention of CLL and the additional costs made me go back to my GP as this was more of a chronic than an acute situation, I understood at the time.
The thing is I under estimated the toll it would take on me not knowing. The not knowing is the worst part at the best of times. The last few years have been a challenge to say the least - my husband's cancer diagnosis and subsequent death.
So I have now paid for it privately. I am hoping I have nothing to worry about. But the fatigue/not knowing is now starting to get to me.
I only went private so matters could be dealt with quickly. It was unfortunate the bone marrow biopsy was not of diagnostic value!
Anyway, just thought I would share and offload! Not sure if I should be posting here?Wondered how other people were diagnosed, as I thought CLL can be diagnosed from bloods alone.
With lots of love,
Dutsie Xx
