Hello all
After being hospitalised with CML last June I thought there would be no way I would be able to get affordable insurance for June this year. Thankfully while it still isn't cheap compared to pre-CML prices, if you go through the annoyance of plugging in your details to multiple sites you will find somewhat affordable plans (assuming you think £20 per day is affordable - which I know is by no means cheap).
I've spent all morning going through sites that were recommended from various sources and compiled the table below. Obviously this will depend on your age, other medical conditions (I have 2 more non life threatening annoyances), destination etc.
The questions they ask when declaring CML are pretty much all the same. They are:
For info my responses were: no, no, yes, 1.
More info: I am male, 39 and going to Spain. This is a single policy. I assumed my partner would be able to get a cheaper policy elsewhere.
Hopefully this will help or encourage some of you that it is indeed possible to go on holiday while still having the peace of mind that if something does happen, you are covered. Lets be honest.. we all need a holiday!
Hi mrgee
I hope you don't mind me butting in, as I'm not a member of this group, but I noticed that you'd taken a lot of trouble to research travel insurance for people with CML and wondered if you'd have the time to add your findings to the 'Member's Stories' thread in the travel insurance group.
To join the group just click on the link I've created and once you've done that you should see the 'Member's Stories' thread either on the right-hand side or the bottom of your screen depending on what type of device you're using.
I hope you and your partner have a lovely holiday
x
Sure latchbrook.
For anybody else reading this, I have some more info.
Both Avanti & Staysure sent an email a day or 2 later offering 20% off their quotes so it may pay to wait a few days if 20% off would make those the best prices for you. I think these guys are either the same company or the websites were built by the same people as they were laid out the same, both offered the 20% discount, and the prices were close.
For anybody that booked using Free Spirit and have had their holiday cancelled, you can either claim back 50% or put your policy on hold until you need to use it again. I received this information from them:
---------------
At the moment, for any policyholders requesting refunds for single trips outside the 14 day cooling-off period Insurers require us to keep to the Terms and Conditions of the policy which limits the refund to 50% of the original premium. In order for us to complete this, please confirm the below;
1.You have made no claims on the policy
2.You have no intention of making any claims on the policy
However, we wish to help our customers as much as possible, especially during such a testing time. If your travel plans have been cancelled we are happy to freeze your policy until the time comes that you are able to re-book your travel arrangements; at which time we can re-commence your policy. Please note that if the destination, duration or your current medical situation changes, this may affect the premium. In order for us to process this, please complete the form on the below link;

We will then email you confirmation in due course. Should you have no confirmed dates, we will input fictitious dates. Once you have a new trip planned , we can amend the dates again for you.
