Long post sorry! Awaiting results

Sorry in advance for the long post! I think I'm just venting and hoping someone has something similar?

Little back story - I have been back and forth colposcopy yearly since 2011! I have had CIN3, CGIN3, SMILE and something else I can't remember. I have had 3 LLetz treatments and all clear since 2018. But the yearly colposcopies remained. I had HPV pos in my very first smear in 2011 nothing since. Until now.

My partner and I have 2 kids. We split up 15 months ago when my LO was born. My smear at 3months post partem was clear of abnormal cells but HPV pos again! Urgh! Fast forward to last week. Had my usual yearly smear which was 2 months late due to staff issues.

Here is my issue. Consultant said he saw a small lump. My letter last year stated high risk Hpv meaning 16 and/or 18.

Also during my visit he had to keep swabbing the area because it was full of discharge? Another thing,  I had 3 biopsies because they lost the first 2 before the sample was placed on the plate!! I could not write this!

Anyone else have alot of discharge? ( never had this at any appointments in all these years I have been attending)

The wait usually doesn't bother me, but this time I an anxious!

  1. Sorry for the long post. First time ever posting on a forum.

TIA

  • Hi  and welcome to our group.

I’m glad you’ve joined us, and hope you’ll find it helpful. You’ve certainly had a lot to contend with, and it certainly must be very wearing, especially now with this new worry for you.

I can understand you’re anxious, especially because you don’t know what this “wart” is yet. While the high risk strains of hpv are tested for to check subsequently for any abnormal cells, it is possible to carry other strains of hpv at the same time which are low risk, and can cause, for example warts. I’m not suggesting this is necessarily the case for you, but it’s a possible explanation for this. Hpv can come and go, but it’s impossible to tell how long you’ve had it as the testing for high risk hpv is a relatively new development in the screening process.

I’m presuming that a sample was taken of it when your biopsies were done? That should give you some answers.

I had a lot of discharge myself, but it was watery, and I am presumably much older than you, so it may not mean anything sinister. I didn’t have anything described as being like a wart, but I did have something described as a lesion which was biopsied.

The waiting is always difficult, but I hope you’ll get the results of your biopsies soon to know what’s happening. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on-there’s always support for you here, regardless of any diagnosis, but I hope it’s nothing to worry about.

  • Thank you Sarah for your response.

Yes, the biopsy was taken from the bump seen, so hopefully I will know more soon. I have had many biopsies over the years, but this time I seem to be bleeding alot which never happens. It has only been 6 days so far. The results usually take 6-8 weeks so I will hold out that no news is good news.

I'm just confused as to how this wasn't picked up at last year's colposcopy. Seems to be a short amount of time for this to appear.

I will most certainly update this post when I know more.

I have just read your profile. I am so sorry for what you have been through, however, very pleased to read that you are where you are at present! What an extremely tough ride you have had! What a lovely thing for you to do in supporting others in their journey! I hope you are as well as can be Fingers crossed

  • Thanks Lu-I’m doing ok!

That’s a long wait for results for you but try not to let your thoughts run away with themselves. I’m not sure why it might have been missed before, but I don’t know how long it might have taken to develop this.

I did bleed quite a bit after my biopsies, but only for a couple of days, so just take care and watch for any sign of infection liked a raised temperature or more discharge. A general rule of thumb is that if you are filling a pad in an hour with heavy bleeding, that needs to be checked out.  You should have a number for the clinic you can call if you are worried.

Try to keep yourself busy if you can-I’m sure your kids will keep you occupied! And I would also advise not going down any doctor Google rabbit holes as that can make you more anxious without giving you any answers. Good luck!
